ALL ABOUT TIMS BY NTSA

Over the past few months the national transport and safety authority (NTSA) has migrated all of it service to the transport integrated management system (TIMS)
It is self-help portal where any Kenyan can be able to access any service offered by ntsa anywhere as long has internet connection.
The first step is opening a TIMS account where your id serial number, mother maiden and kra pin.
Also a working phone number is needed.
After opening the account you can be able to access the following services
ONLINE CAR SEARCH.
This shows the ;
Chassis number
Engine number
Model,
Bobby type,
Make,
Date of registration
Duty status
Number of previous owner
Loading capacity
Tax class
Axles
Name of the registered owners
Postal address
Phone number.
INSPECTION BOOKING 
There are three types of inspection 
  1. New car inspections
This one is for new imports and locally assembled cars and trucks.
2.Annual inspections
All commercial vehicles be it buses, matatus, taxis, prime movers are supposed to go for the mandatory inspection once per year.
3.Change of particulars
When you change your engine, color, tax class or fuel type you are submitted to this type of inspection in order for the changes to reflect on the logbook.
NEW VEHICLE REGISTRATION 
All new imports or locally assembled vehicles are registered via Tims
After the successful registration you will be issued with logbook and number plate.
TRANSFER OF MOTOR VEHICLE
Long are the days that you needed to fill a form c and attach copy of imp and kra pin for both buyer and seller.
You just create a new application and fill the details of the buyer and make the payments via mpesa or any other payment channel.
CONFIRMATION OF TRANSFER 
This applies to those vehicle are owned by two person.
After the application of transfer of motor vehicle which is jointly owned the other person will use this function to give the green light for the transfer to be effected.
ACCEPTING OWNERSHIP
After the seller initiate the process of transfer the buyer will accept and indicate where you he will pick the logbook.
APPLICATION OF CHANGE OF PARTICULARS
When you change any particulars on your vehicle and the inspection was done you apply for changes.
If success you will be issued with a new logbook showing the changes.
 APPLICATION OF DUPLICATE LOGBOOK
A duplicate logbook is issued when the original one is lost or damaged.
It looks similar to the original logbook only serial number changes.
APPLICATION OF REFLECTIVE NUMBER PLATE
Number sometimes get lost and you have to replace them.
Just make the application, pay and indicate where to pick the plate.
CONFIRMATION OF IN CHARGE
An in charge is created when you take a facility from a banking institiuon or micro-finance.
After they have charged the vehicle the owner uses this to confirm the same so that a new logbook can be issued showing the details of the micro-finance or the bank
Reregistration
When you buy a vehicle from either army, police auction or kra auction you use this tab to apply for registration.
